I just had family in town and had to bring them to one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta- Spice to Table in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood. Chef Asha Gomez offers about 5 or 6 Indian inspired dishes every day for lunch and every time I eat there, I am so thankful for her food, her flavors, her creativity. It's all just so good.
So it's wonderful to see the release of her first cookbook, My Two Souths: Blending the Flavors of India Into a Southern Kitchen. The book is a combination of her influences in growing up in two souths- the American South and Kerala in southern India. She is self taught in crafting equally comforting, inventive and flavorful food. As the book was recently reviewed in the NY Times, "Ms. Gomez's lack of a classical cooking education is, in part, what makes this cookbook delightful. She intuits the needs and desires of the home cook; a chicken and rice dish is fancy in both name and flavor, but it dirties one pot."
