Husband and wife team, Josh and Ivy Elrod opened Wilder in 2014 with the intention to create a space full of unique, aesthetically pleasing work from both national and international artists. From ceramics and textiles to furniture, jewelry, art and apothecary collections, it's certainly an eclectic mix which is what makes the space so inviting. There's so much to see, yet it's devoid of clutter or conformity. The large windows and white walls are also the perfect backdrop for each item to show off its well designed self.
As I'm a sucker for ceramics, I was quite happy to find many artists represented here that I had yet to discover...and to finally see Sarah Cihat's work in person. She lives and works in Nashville and creates some stunning pieces- my favorite being her marbled dishware for Wilder. I would love nothing more than to have a whole drawerful of these marbled masterpieces...
In an article for Nashville Lifestyles, Ivy summed up the space quite well, "Josh has a wilder aesthetic- no pun intended. He's messier whereas I gravitate toward order. That's what our store is about: bringing together the non obvious pairings." The furniture and lighting pieces are truly quality investment pieces, all with the ability to provoke the question "Where did you get that?" Josh and Ivy curate a fantastic specialty magazine collection too. And I spy Garza Marfa furniture...as a blogger, I write about a lot of art I admire from afar so it's nice to finally have the chance to experience some of these pieces up close and personal.
I'm always on the lookout for new jewelry and what I love about Wilder is that their selection is minimal yet wholly original and simply beautiful. I'll be up in Nashville again this weekend working on the final details for the paper, so I'll be sure to be in Wilder once again... drooling in admiration once again. Check out their online shop, here.
