If you grew up in the South, it's safe to say you have many memories of baking biscuits in the kitchen with your mom or your grandmother. Everyone seems to have their favorite recipe- I personally love the HollyBeth Anderson approach using fresh herbs from the yard and items on hand like apples, peaches or cheese. But I think I'm ready to up my biscuit game, which can only happen if I have one of these lovely ceramic Biscuit Cutters in hand. Launching this week for the first time, the Biscuit Cutter is a collaboration between two of my favorite Atlanta based artists- Heirloomed and Honeycomb Studio.
Ashley Schoenith of Heirloomed approached Courtney of Honeycomb after admiring her pretty aesthetic and beautifully designed ceramics over the years. Ashley, "I had been wanting to do this biscuit cutter for a long time and grew up with made-from-scratch biscuits with White Lily flour, buttermilk and lard- the classics. I love the unexpected juxtaposition of this kitchen staple being made into a special ceramic piece. And the great thing is, it's beautiful but the construction is super solid and feels great. It's a very efficient cutter." Courtney stamps each cutter with a customized 'H/h,' to denote the collaboration.
If you're going to have a biscuit cutter than I think you should complement it with the oh-so-pretty companion Butter Dish. As Ashley shared with me the other day, "The butter dish is a great companion and I love the 'pat' size that Courtney came up with. Her rationale was spot on for entertaining and it really reminds me of how my grandmother always entertained." Speaking of moms and grandmoms, the biscuit cutter and butter dish would make a wonderful Mother's Day gift. It's nostalgically southern and soulful and a lovely way to create new memories with those you love. To learn more, just click here.
