Caffaknitted

My wonderful friend, Chelsea Morgan recently told me about her North Carolina buddy, Katie Boyette, who is a knitting connoisseur. Chelsea sent me the link to Katie's site and I instantly loved her colorful, wacky creations and had to share...

On Katie's site, you'll see she creates all manner of people, animals and objects. Each piece can take anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks to complete. She explains, "I usually start with a quick sketch, then map out an estimated pattern and edit as I go along."

When I asked Katie if there was anything particularly Southern about her work, she said, "Yes, it is generally fueled by homegrown tomatoes and bourbon." Love that...

Katie finds inspiration daily to make her quirky, detailed creatures. When I asked what inspired her she replied, "Anything that either makes me laugh, or looks just impossible to knit." Adding, "I like to knit the unexpected." After recently buying some baby chickens, she decided to knit a rooster. The homing pigeon is Katie's favorite animal, so why not? Every piece tells a story and every new one I see makes it harder to pick a favorite.

This little boom box actually works. Katie found some tiny, rechargeable ipod speakers, then knitted a cute case for them. Okay, now I know she can knit anything....

I have a soft spot for owls and quickly smiled when I saw these two. See many more of Katie's creations here and peruse her book, KnitWits if you're a knitting queen too- or just aspire to be one. Thanks Katie...and Chelsea too!
