"When I think of vintage eyewear, I think of Audrey Hepburn in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' or Marilyn Monroe with her fashionable eyewear that trademarked these iconic glasses." So says Teresa of Vintage 50's Eyewear based in Hayesville, North Carolina, who admits to her strong obsession for all things mid century and fabulous for the eyes. Find the above look, a France cat eye, complete with stunning aurora rhinestones, here.
Teresa gets most of her eyewear, surprisingly enough, from optometrist shops that are closing down. She smartly buys out their new old stock frames. She adds, "I also find eyewear at auctions, yard sales and thrift stores." She is passionate and knowledgeable, which has allowed her to build up quite the fabulous collection.
When I asked Teresa what she loved about vintage eyewear, she replied, "I love the uniqueness and the quality. Yes, you can purchase reproductions, however they are not the same. Not even close. There's nothing like wearing a pair of true vintage frames."
She has so many great, high quality frames to choose from in her shop, including France eyewear, Shuron eyeglasses and G man frames, with her specialty lying in cat eye frames from the 50's. Teresa is obsessed with updating her shop with classic new finds and she tirelessly does so every week. As she explains, "From age 8 to 80, there is a pair for everyone." Peruse her wonderful shop today and embrace a little nostalgic cool...thanks Teresa.
